Here are some helpful conversion factors. I always find myself looking for measuring cups and spoons around my kitchen, so sometimes it is helpful to know what the conversion factors are so that I can easily use what I’ve got on the go.
1 gallon = 4 quarts = 3.79 litres
1 litre = 1000 millilitres = 4.2 cups
1 quart = 4 cups = 32 fluid ounces
1 pint = 2 quarts
1 cup = 8 fluid ounces = 16 tablespoons
1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons
And then there are measurements by weight. I recommend using a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients out. Here is the conversion between different units:
1 pound (lb) = 0.454 kilograms = 454 grams = 16 ounces
And if you don’t have a scale here a few conversions from mass to volume:
1 cup of all purpose flour = 1/3 pound = 4.4 ounce = 125 g
1 cup of butter = 1/2 pound = 8 ounce = 227 g
1 cup of brown or granulated sugar = 0.44 pound = 7 oz = 200 g
1 cup chocolate chips = 3/8 pound = 6.2 oz = 175 g
For chocolate chips the measurements don’t need to be precise, chocolate is good in any quantity!
